Illawong house sales last year reached $42.4 million. The total in 1997 was $53.7 million, well up from $31.8 million in 1996.

The 22 auctions last year had a clearance rate of 59 per cent, for a total of $4.1 million and average of $452,000. The 33 in 1997 had a 55 per cent clearance rate and made $6.9 million (average $384,000), while the 14 in 1996 had a 36 per cent clearance rate and made $1.8 million ($365,000).

The 94 private treaty sales last year totalled $38.4 million (average $408,000). The 128 in 1997 made $46.8 million ($365,000), while the 95 in 1996 made $30 million ($312,000).
